To declare the hand before the opponent it is mandatory to make at least one pure sequence.
Types of Rummy Sequence
In online rummy card games, a player can form two types of rummy card game sequences which are pure sequence and impure sequence. Let’s take a look at the rummy sequences that are used in the game of rummy.
Pure Sequence
A pure sequence is a rummy sequence which is formed with at least 3 or more consecutive cards of the same suit. A pure sequence is mandatory to make a valid declaration in the game. The Joker card is not used to form a pure sequence. Declaring your cards without a pure sequence would make it an invalid declaration and result in a penalty of 80 points.
For instance, if a player is given 3♦, 4♦ and 5♦ then they can create a pure sequence with it.

Impure Sequence
Just like pure sequence, the impure sequence also plays a major role in completing the hand. An impure sequence can be formed with printed or wildcard joker cards. It can be used as a substitute for a missing card in order to complete the sequence.
For instance, a player has 8 of Clubs, 9 of Clubs but does not have 7 of Clubs or 10 of Clubs in their hand, the joker card can be used in place of a missing card (8 of Clubs, 9 of Clubs and Joker card).

Impure Sequence with Printed Joker
An impure sequence can be formed with a printed joker card. A printed joker is a card on which the joker is printed. For instance, a player is dealt with 5♣, Printed Joker (PJ) and 7♣. A printed joker can be used in place of 6♣ to complete the hand. The sequence will be (5♣, PJ, 7♣).

Impure Sequence with Wildcard Joker
Just like an impure sequence can be formed with a printed joker card, it can be formed with a wildcard joker card as well. A wildcard joker is a card which is chosen at the beginning of the game. There are four wildcard jokers in a game. For instance, a player has 4♠, 5♠, Wildcard Joker(WJ) and 7♠. A wildcard joker is used in place of 6♠ to complete the hand. The sequence will be 4♠, 5♠, (WJ) and 7♠

Rummy Sequence Rules
The rules of rummy sequences are quite easy to grasp, much like the overall game of rummy itself. The rules are as follows:
- To make a valid declaration, it is mandatory to form at least two sequences. Out of which one must be a pure sequence.
- Declaring the game without a pure sequence is considered an invalid declaration which leads to a penalty of 80-points. So, before you declare, be sure you have a pure sequence in your hand.
- A minimum of three cards are needed to form a valid sequence or set in the game of rummy.
- At least two sequences, including at least one pure sequence, are required to make a valid declaration, the remaining cards can be used to form either sequences or sets. Making sets is not a compulsion, but is an option.
Valid Declaration in Rummy
In a rummy card game it is mandatory to form one pure rummy sequence in order to form a valid declaration. By forming an impure rummy sequence and sets you can complete the hand.
Valid declaration made with a pure sequence
When the cards are dealt, you have to sort the cards using the ‘sort’ button. You will see, cards are grouped in the respective suits on your screen (K♠ J♠ (WJ)), (5♥ 6♥ (PJ) 8♥), (J♣ Q♣ K♣),( A♦A♣ A♥)

From the above, you can see that you have one pure rummy sequence which is important to make a valid declaration.
From the above card arrangement, you can see that you have one pre-made pure rummy sequence which is important to make a valid declaration. The rest of the cards can be melded into sets and impure sequences.
Invalid declaration made with and without rummy sequence
In order to make a valid declaration, it is important to form two rummy sequences (pure and impure). If any of the rummy sequence is missing then it will be considered an invalid declaration.
A few examples of invalid declarations are as follows:
Declaration without Pure Sequence

In this declaration, there is one set (6♣, 6♥, 6♠) and three impure sequences (2♥, 3♥, 5♠WJ), (9♣, 10♣, 5♦WJ), (7♦, 8♦, PJ, 10♦). There is no pure rummy sequence which makes this arrangement an invalid declaration.
Declaration without Impure Sequence

In the above declaration, there are three sets and one pure rummy sequence which are (4♣, 4♥, 4♠) (Q♥, Q♠, Q♣, Q♦) (9♥, 9♣, PJ) (Ace♦, 2♦, 3♦). Since there is no impure sequence making it an invalid declaration.
Declaration with Set

In this, there is no pure rummy sequence and impure sequence but four sets making it an invalid declaration, which are (Ace♥, Ace♦, PJ, Ace♣) (6♦, 6♣, 6♠) (8♥, 8♦, 8♣), (4♣, 4♦, 5♠(WJ)).
Cards used to form Rummy Sequence
Players can make an impure sequence and pure sequence with high-point cards, low-point cards and face cards.
1. Face Card Sequence
Face cards are those cards which have a picture of a face. Out of 13 cards, there are only three face cards in every suit: King, Queen and Jack. Supposedly, if a player is given K of Hearts, Q of Hearts and J of Hearts then they can make a pure sequence of face cards.
2. Low-Point Card Sequence
Low-point cards are the cards whose point value is equal to their rank. Cards from 2 to 5 of all the suits are considered low-point cards. Suppose, you have 3 of Spades, 4 of Spades and 5 of Spades in your hand then you can make a sequence with it.
3. High-Point Card Sequence
Just like low-point cards, the point value of high-point cards is equal to its rank. Cards from 6 to 10 of all suits are considered high-point cards. For example, a player has 6 of Clubs, 7 of Clubs, 8 of Clubs and 9 of Clubs (6, 7, 8 and 9) then they can group the cards and form a sequence of four cards. Forming a sequence of more than 3 cards reduces the number of cards in the hand.
