Online Rummy Gets Popular With Film Stars in India

Card games are big in India and the frenzy has just started to gain momentum amongst celebs. Celebrities who play rummy, a skill based card game popular in India like to unwind at the tables just like all other players. Tollywood, Bollywood and corporate India are jumping on to the rummy bandwagon quickly. While flush or teen patti is the game of choice at Diwali card parties of the superstars, Poker and Rummy tend to be played regularly throughout the year.

Bollywood and Card Parties

Decades ago stars like Shashi Kapoor had started the trend of Diwali card parties. In attendance were all the glitzy stars of the glamour world. Yesteryear mega stars like Jeetendra and Rakesh Roshan played high stake games during these gatherings. Kabir Bedi and Raj Babbar were also rumored to be big punters. And then there were others who just played for fun and custom. Aamir Khan, the perfectionist actor who has so many films that have found critical acclaim with the masses, and who was recently seen playing the role of Mahavir Singh Phogat in the film ‘Dangal’, is an avid poker player. His flawlessness is seen at poker games. He is known for hosting parties with poker and rummy tables with varying stakes which are frequented by many from the film fraternity.

Shilpa Shetty claims to have picked up card games from her husband Raj Kundra. She is said to have learnt Rummy, Poker and Flush from him. Mandira Bedi, the suave TV star and celebrity cricket expert is also rumored to enjoy rummy games. According to some sources, Mandira enjoys both cricket and rummy equally. Rana Duggabatti and Prakash Jha are famous south Indian actors who have shown their love and passion for online rummy games. Actors have long schedules and they also need to unwind. After all, those who provide entertainment to rest of the world also need entertainment for themselves.

Corporate Players

Indira Nooyi is probably India’s most celebrated female CEO. She has been at the helm of affairs at PepsiCo which in itself is an iconic brand and a well respected company. Indira Nooyi has a soft spot for rummy games and likes to unwind at vibrant rummy tables. She likes to play for fun and to relax after a long day at work as do many others in India. It’s no surprise that celebrities enjoy the heart throbbing excitement of card games all over the world. While many famous people including actors, musicians, sports people, models and corporate big wigs are adopting online formats of rummy and poker, most are occasional players and play for their enjoyment only. But it is nice to know that big stars too are humans just like the rest of us and they too need to relax and refresh their minds.
